The Chamber of Faro provided 2500 euros support to RIAS – Center for the Recovery and Research of Wild Animals, to “support the activities of this institution, namely the reception and treatment of wild animals and protected species or the referral of these animals to other institutions, as well as their return to natural habitats whenever possible'.

With this subsidy, approved at the Chamber Meeting, the Faro local authority joins «the work of research, nature preservation and awareness of environmental issues promoted by this institution, enabling, with the allocation of this amount, the continuation of its many actions».

Between 2017 and 2020, the RIAS, which is installed at the headquarters of the Ria Formosa Natural Park, in Olhão, collected «about 1682 animals from the municipality of Faro, with its main focus of action being the Ria Formosa Natural Park and the specimens that live there».

«Treating mostly birds (89%), but also reptiles (6%), mammals (4%) and amphibians (1%), RIAS technicians develop actions that allow for better knowledge of the fauna of this region.

All the information collected is sent to the National Network for the Collection and Recovery of Fauna (RNCRF) and they are also carried out for environmental education and nature conservation», framed the Chamber of Faro.

RIAS is part of the National Network of Recovery Centers for Fauna, coordinated by ICNF, and managed by Associação ALDEIA.
