All children from kindergartens and schools in the municipality of Alcoutim (1st, 2nd and 3rd cycles) will have their lunch paid, according to the Council's measure, due to "the socio-economic characteristics of the municipality, which show the low purchasing power of families".
Lunches for children who attend the nursery, daycare, preschool and ATL will also be paid during the school vacation period.
As for students attending the 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycles, “the amount not reimbursed by the Ministry of Education will be paid”. This is if they have, for example, grade A or B.
The measure, which was approved this Wednesday, February 3, "aimed at ensuring balanced and adequate nutrition to the needs of the school population, meeting basic food shortages and representing a commitment to improving the quality of education."
Considering that the expenses with books and school material represent the expenditure of a significant amount of the family budget, the approved proposal also foresees the «attribution of economic assistance, collectively, in the amount of 1000 euros for students of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycle».
"This executive is committed to the implementation of socio-educational support, which promote equal opportunities in access to school and in the fight against various forms of social and school exclusion, creating conditions for the realization of significant learning by all students" , refers Osvaldo Gonçalves, president of the Alcoutim Chamber.
