Pandemic debated at the Algarve Intermunicipal Assembly

Health and economy were the focus of the thematic meeting “The epidemiological situation in the Algarve, the measures adopted and their respective impacts on the Region”

Representatives of the different party groups of the Algarve Municipal Assembly met by videoconference to take stock of the pandemic situation in the region.

The meeting had as its theme “The epidemiological situation in the Algarve, the adopted measures and the respective impacts on the Region”, with a focus on the health and economy sectors.

Paulo Morgado, president of the Regional Health Administration (ARS) of the Algarve, was invited to participate and spoke about the epidemiological evolution in the region.

"A balance was made in the area of ​​health, namely regarding the number of beds available, the number of new infections, the opening of more testing areas, the infrastructure that is being used to support patients and those that are prepared to enter in operation, if the situation so warrants”, according to AMAL.

The Vaccination Plan in the Algarve and its progress was also addressed.

«In the area of ​​Economy, the urgent need to strengthen economic support for the region was highlighted, with the importance of implementing the Algarve Economic Recovery Plan, which is already being drawn up, with a view to designing a regional strategy to combat the effects caused. by the pandemic in the region's economy,” according to the inter-municipal community.

The representatives of the Intermunicipal Groups also took the opportunity to highlight «the fundamental role of the Investalgarve Network – Regional Network for Support to Economic and Social Development, created in 2015, which aims to strengthen the business capacity of SMEs in the region and constitutes a response system, networking, to encourage entrepreneurship, investment and entrepreneurship”, in this pandemic phase.

The next meeting of the Intermunicipal Groups is scheduled for May and will have as its theme: “The economic and social situation in the Algarve resulting from COVID-19 and the stimulus measures included in the “NextGenerationEU” program for the Region”. It will be attended by the President of CCDR do Algarve, José Apolinário.

The Intermunicipal Assembly is an organ of AMAL – Algarve Intermunicipal Community, made up of 56 members from the 16 Algarve Municipal Assemblies, representing the elected parties in a proportional manner.

Within it, there are the so-called Intermunicipal Groups, which bring together elements elected by the same party or coalition.
