Monchique awarded the creativity of artists and writers in the municipality

Ana Telo won the painting category

Paulo Rosa won the Prose category

The Municipality of Monchique awarded prizes totaling 2.800 euros, in the areas of Prose, Photography, Sculpture and Painting, within the scope of the Monchique Artistic and Literary Prize. This initiative had the objective of «stimulating writing and artistic creation as an icon in the history of this county and its people».

As highlighted by the City Council, «art in general as a universal language and bridge between peoples, has recognized in Monchique as a privileged place for artistic creation and production. The result of this is the large number of artists of various forms of expression who choose our municipality as the basis for their creations and also for their own life».

It was based on this premise that the municipality «launched the Monchique Artistic and Literary Prize, aimed at rewarding works of recognized quality in the areas of Prose, Poetry, Sculpture, Photography and Painting».

The municipality emphasizes the “quality of the works presented in this competition, whose prizes were awarded last week”.

In the Prose category, Paulo Rosa was ranked first, having Carlos Almeida received an honorable mention.
In the Sculpture category, Madalena Telo was ranked first.

In Photography, there were three winners: Daniel Ginjeira (1st), Miguel Silva (2nd) and Tobias Lopes (3rd).

Finally, in the Painting category, Ana Telo won 1st prize, David Duarte was 2nd and Virginia Powell was 3rd.

The Municipality of Monchique emphasizes that, in addition to this award, «the municipality continues to promote activities aimed at the population in general in order to foster cognitive skills and stimulate creativity and activity in a time of new social isolation».

An example of this, «the Video Art Ateliers are being promoted in the Municipality Facebook and that invite the followers to carry out various workshops such as painting on canvas, painting on T-shirts, handicrafts with shells, among other crafts».

This series of workshops has the special participation of artist Meire Gomes.
