Grupo Barraqueiro is interested in commercially exploiting trains between Faro and Braga, reports the newspaper Expresso today, in its print edition.

According to this weekly, taking advantage of the opportunity created by the liberalization of passenger rail transport, the group of businessman Humberto Pedrosa will deliver on Monday an application for a railway operator license to the Institute of Mobility and Transport (IMT).

«The objective of this business group, held 68,5% by businessman Humberto Pedrosa and 31,5% by British Arriva (which was bought in 2010 by German Deutsche Bahn), is to offer trains between these two cities, with stops in Lisbon and Porto, within three to four years», adds the Express.

Only in the first phase, to make the Braga-Faro, the group estimates it needs between 250 million and 300 million euros, with the purchase of trains being the heaviest bill.
