Covid-19: Association starts collecting food for more than 60 animals at risk

Campaign takes place across the country

Animalife will start a national collection of food and other essential goods for more than 60 animals at risk, to distribute to more than 300 associations and informal animal support groups, it was announced today.

In a statement, the association said that the Banco Solidário Animal (BSA) initiative returns to commercial establishments next weekend, without the presence of volunteers, due to the pandemic context.

“The campaign will take place on the 6th and 7th at Auchan and My Auchan stores across the country”, he adds, recalling that people are invited “to leave their donations in 'boxes' [boxes, in free translation] identified and available for the purpose”.

According to Animalife, the most needed products are dry and wet dog and cat food, and sand.

"Those interested may also contribute with hygiene and cleaning products, leashes, collars or food troughs", he emphasizes.

From Tuesday, according to Animalife, there will also be a campaign of vouchers until 14 February, which will be available in Auchan's box lines and in the official website of commercial space and, in addition to basic products, they will give the possibility to contribute with solidarity baskets.

"The donated goods will be distributed to more than 300 associations and informal animal support groups, and to needy families and homeless people with dependent animals enrolled in the Support Programs of Animalife, the promoter and organizer of the BSA" , can be read in a statement.

Animalife also recalls that more than half of the national animal support associations have had difficulty in accessing essential products and goods, such as food for dogs and cats, due to the pandemic.

"Last year, the Covid-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of some in-store campaigns, which was reflected in the day-to-day of the hundreds of associations covered by the initiative" BSA, emphasizes, adding that, in 2020, the associations “they saw all kinds of supports fall”.

Banco Solidário Animal usually takes place three times a year (February, May and September/October), in hypermarkets and supermarkets across the country.

"Animalife started the year with the perspective of several campaigns in store, which, given the evolution of the pandemic, had to be rethought", says the chairman of the board of Animalife, Rodrigo Livreiro, quoted in the statement.

According to Rodrigo Livreiro, BSA is “a fundamental initiative for many associations”, so Animalife will continue to study alternatives – with partners – in order to “actively support the well-being of the thousands of animals that BSA directly supports. ”.
