Alentejo continues to be the region of the country that is most advanced in the process of vaccination against Covid-19, with 7% of the population having taken a dose and 4% with the complete process. The Algarve, on the other hand, rose face to last week's data and is with numbers equal to those of Lisbon and Vale do Tejo and the North, according to the vaccination report released this Tuesday, February 23, by the General Directorate of Health (DGS).

According to this document, at national level, 1 people have already been vaccinated with the 433.475st dose (more 96.701 than in the previous week) and there are 248.708 citizens with complete vaccination (more 46.565).

These numbers mean that 4% of the Portuguese population has already received a dose of the vaccine and 3% has the process completed.

But let's go to the regions. In Alentejo, until last Sunday, 21 February, 51.347 doses of the vaccine were administered, 6.683 of which in the last week. This means that, in this region, 7% of the population has already taken the first dose and 4% have completed vaccination.

Compared to last week, Alentejo increased by 1% the number of people who took the first dose, but maintains the percentage of individuals with both inoculations (4%).

Moving on to the Algarve, the pace of vaccination is slower. Since its beginning in December, 23.955 doses have been given in the Algarve region. Of these, 5.236 were given until last Sunday.

These numbers mean that 4% of the population has already taken the first dose and 2% is fully immunized. The data revealed today by the DGS show, even so, an increase compared to the last report in which 3% of the Algarve already had the first dose and only 1% both.

In the more cosmopolitan regions – but, at the same time, more populous – the numbers are, moreover, the same as in the Algarve. Lisbon and Vale do Tejo and the North have the same percentages of population inoculated with the first dose (4%) and with full vaccination (2%).

In total terms, in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, 221.815 doses of the vaccine have already been given, 49.844 in the last week, while in the North 219.961 were administered (47 in the last week).

As for the Centro region, it is the second in mainland Portugal with the most advanced vaccination, with 6% of the population having already taken the first dose and 4% with full vaccination. In total numbers, this region has already administered 163.749 vaccines, 34.271 of which until last Sunday.

The DGS report also reveals that Portugal has already received 830.730 doses of vaccine against Covid-19, which represents more than 178.830 compared to the last report.

Of these 830.730 doses, 718.143 have already been distributed – there are always reserve injections, to ensure the availability of second doses in good time.

By age groups, those over 80 years of age lead by far the percentages of the inoculated population. 19% of the population has been vaccinated with one dose (126.259 people) and 8% with full vaccination (52.470 people).

This is followed by the age group between 25 and 49 years (5% have already been inoculated with a dose, which represents 154.192 individuals, and 3% have completed the process, which is equivalent to 102.757 people).

Then appears the range from 50 to 64: 5% have already taken one dose (102.444 people) and 3% both (61.291 individuals).

Continuing the analysis by age groups, there appears the 65 to 79 years, where 2% have already taken the first dose (36.291) and another 2% have completed their vaccination (24.108).

From 18 to 24, 13.476 young people (2%) and 7995 with both (1%) have been vaccinated with one dose.

Finally, from 0 to 17, 182 young people aged 16 and 17 have already been vaccinated (1 dose) and 87 with both.

This new report by the General Directorate of Health is always released every Tuesday and aims to take stock of the progress of vaccination in the country, through the publication of a document that reports not only on the cumulative evolution, but also on the weekly.
