Aljezur and Vila do Bispo are the only municipalities in the Algarve with a moderate risk of contagion

Number of councils with extremely high risk increased from seven to three

Aljezur

Aljezur and Vila do Bispo remain the only two municipalities in the Algarve that have a moderate risk of contagion, according to the 19-day update of the cumulative incidence of Covid-14 cases, made this Monday, February 15, by the General Directorate of Health (DGS). According to the bulletin, the neighbors Costa Vicentina were the only municipalities that, between 27 January and 9 February, had less than 240 new cases per 100 inhabitants.

Conversely, according to data from the DGS, Monchique was the municipality in the region with the highest incidence of contagion in that period, with 2088 cases per 100 inhabitants. The mountain council joined the list of councils with extremely high risk, which have more than 960 cases per 100 inhabitants, in last week's DGS update, due to the outbreak in the Lar da Santa Casa da Misericórdia.

Vila Real de Santo António is the second municipality in the Algarve with the highest incidence of new cases (1483), followed by Castro Marim (1186) which, this Saturday, started a mass testing of the population that has already identified new cases of contagion.

Regarding the last update, there is a positive indicator, since only these three municipalities present extremely high risk when, a week ago, there were seven.

Loulé (811), Faro (756), Olhão (628) and Alcoutim (926) “reduced” to the category of very high risk, that is, they had between 480 and 959,9 new cases per 100 inhabitants, in the 14 days recorded in the DGS bulletin.

Silves (629), Portimão (528), Lagos (599) and Albufeira (636) are also at the same level of incidence of contagion.

Contrary to what happened in the latest DGS update, there are now also three municipalities that are at high risk of contagion, that is, they had between 240 and 479,9 cases of Covid-19 per 100 inhabitants between 27 January and 9 February Tourist attractions: São Brás de Alportel (470), Lagoa (448) and Tavira (404).

For the second week in a row, Aljezur is once again the municipality in the Algarve with the lowest incidence of cases per 100 inhabitants, with 107, an even lower rate than the last update, which had been 125.

The other municipality considered to be of moderate risk, Vila do Bispo, has an incidence of new infections per 100 inhabitants of 213.

This weekly update served as a reference for the elaboration of the list of councils at risk, and which were subject to stricter rules, something that stopped happening with the general confinement in force since January 15th.

According to the latest epidemiological bulletin from the DGS, this Monday, the Algarve recorded another 30 cases of Covid-19 and 6 deaths.
