Alcoutim also wants to see the Foupana dam in the Resilience Plan

AM de Alcoutim also supports the construction of a bridge between this village and Sanlúcar de Guadiana

The Alcoutim Municipal Assembly unanimously approved a motion that supports the inclusion of the construction of a bridge between this town and Sanlúcar de Guadiana in the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) and defends «the relevance of including the construction of the Weir in Ribeira da Foupana» in this Government's investment strategy, under the “European bazooka”.

This position taken by AM Alcoutim takes place at a time when the PRR is in Public Consultation and where proposals and suggestions can be made to improve it.

In the first case, the bridge connecting Alcoutim and its Spanish neighbor, on the other side of the Guadiana, is a work that is part of the plan and everything indicates that it is really to move forward.

As for the weir in Ribeira da Foupana, despite not being provided for in the PRR, the members of this municipal body consider it important "for the development of the municipality and to ensure the resilience of the territory to episodes of drought", which is why they consider it to be "extreme relevance' its inclusion in this strategy.

This suggestion is due to the fact that the plan also contemplate the water efficiency and resilience of the Algarve against water scarcity.

The PRR allocates 200 million to achieve this goal, which will serve, among other things, to create a connection from Pomarão to Odeleite, allowing for transfers from the Guadiana to this dam, as well as to implement a desalination plant.

AM Alcoutim defends that the work of the dam in Ribeira da Foupana should also be included in this heading, taking into account that it will “contribute to the fight against desertification, improving the resilience of the water system, through the reinforcement of the storage capacity, constituting a relevant added value in responding to the region's water needs, without prejudice to other complementary options».
