20 thousand contraband cigarettes were seized yesterday, the 21st, in the municipalities of Lagoa and Albufeira, in an operation of the Tax Action Detachment (DAF) of Faro of the GNR.
The operation, classified as «action to prevent and combat tax evasion and fraud», focused on transport companies.
The military of the Guard "detected two packages without any accompanying documents and which contained 1000 packs of cigarettes, ready to be sold to the consumer, also verifying that they did not bear the tax stamp required for their marketing in national territory".
The recipient of the goods, a 38-year-old man, was constituted as a defendant on suspicion of counterfeiting and irregular introduction into consumption.
Tobacco, whose commercial value amounts to 4500 euros, was also seized. The GNR stresses that "its illicit marketing would have caused damage to the State, in the context of the Special Tax on Tobacco Consumption (IT) and the Value Added Tax (VAT), of around 3600 euros."
