Algarve cultural agents can submit applications to the Cultural Action Support Program (PAACA) of the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve until the 8th of March.
«The PAACA's main objectives are to support the development of cultural initiatives/projects promoted by non-professional cultural sector entities, in order to strengthen the local cultural fabric with artistic creation and circulation, while stimulating and strengthening relations of work, between cultural facilities and these agents, and helps to qualify agents who are part of the non-professional cultural sector in the Algarve», according to the Regional Directorate of Culture.
This year, the central theme to be addressed is domestic violence, "because this is one of the great social dramas we are currently facing, on which art can play an important role in calling attention and raising awareness, which DRCAlg intends to stimulate" .
When analyzing the projects, the Regional Directorate will maintain the following priority eligibility criteria: the fight against social exclusion and desertification in the interior of the Algarve; strengthening the role of Arts and Culture in raising awareness of issues such as: respect for human rights, equality and non-discrimination, integration of Roma communities, promotion of youth participation, the challenges posed by migration and socio-territorial integration; education for culture and the arts; the enhancement of the Algarve's intangible heritage and preservation of traditions, memories and identity, including the revitalization of historic centers and centres; Cultural innovation, multidisciplinary and multicultural projects.
In 2021, "extraordinaryly" and due to the pandemic, "expenses arising from salaries, allocated to cultural actions, duly justified, up to 15% of the total support granted" are eligible.
"Cultural agents can also focus their projects on the component of creation or presentation on digital platforms, if the conditions imposed by the pandemic situation are prolonged in time, continuing to hinder in-person presentations and contact with the public", concluded the Regional Directorate of Culture.
