191 doctors start internship in Algarve this month

New interns have already been entitled to reception sessions

61 interns from the 2020 Medical Internship Competition – Specialized Training (43 from various hospital specialties, 14 from General and Family Medicine, 4 from Public Health) and 130 interns from General Training begin their medical internship training this January in three Groups of Health Centers in the Algarve and in the hospitals of the University Hospital Center of the Algarve (CHUA).

Therefore, 43 interns will be placed in the following specialties: Anesthesiology (2), Cardiology (1), General Surgery (3), Infectious Diseases (1), Gastroenterology (2), Gynecology/Obstetrics (3), Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (2), Intensive Care Medicine (3), Internal Medicine (8), Nephrology (1), Neurology (1), Medical Oncology (2), Otolaryngology (1), Clinical Pathology (1), Medical Pediatrics (3), Pulmonology (1), Psychiatry (6), Rheumatology (1), Urology (1).

«With regard to the 130 intern doctors of General Training, in order to deepen their knowledge in different clinical contexts, the inmates will develop their training, in a supervised manner, in different specialties and services in the hospital units of Faro and Portimão and also in the Health Centers of the region», explains the Regional Health Administration (ARS) of the Algarve.

Of the 14 interns in the General and Family Medicine specialty placed in the three Health Center Groups (ACeS) of the ARS Algarve, 8 will undertake their training at ACeS Central (3 at USF Lauroé in Loulé, 1 at USF Farothere in Faro, 2 at USF Ria Formosa in Faro, 1 at USF Mirante in Olhão and 1 at USF Sol Nascente in Albufeira), two at ACeS Sotavento (1 USF Balsa in Tavira and 1 at USF Levante in Vila Real de Santo António) and four at ACeS Barlavento (2 at USF Portas do Arade in Portimão, 1 at USF Descobrimentos in Lagos and 1 at UCSP de Lagoa).

With regard to Public Health, two will be trained at the USP of ACeS Barlavento and the others at the USP of ACeS Central.

The new General and Family Medicine and Public Health interns were received on Monday, 4 January, at the headquarters of ARS Algarve, in a reception session.

Participating in the initiative were Maria Gonzalez Mora, coordinator of the General and Family Medicine Internship of the Algarve, Ana Cristina Costa, coordinator of the Public Health Medical Internship, and Ana Cristina Guerreiro, director of the Public Health and Planning Department of the ARS Algarve and president of the Algarve Regional Medical Internship Commission.

This Wednesday, the 6th of January, the University Hospital Center of the Algarve held the reception ceremony for the 130 General Training interns and the 43 Specialized Training doctors, in two face-to-face sessions at the Hotel Senses Eva, in Faro, and at Portimão Arena.

On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Centro Hospitalar Universitário do Algarve, the executive member Paulo Neves and the clinical director Horácio Guerreiro were present. from CHUA, an institution where they will have opportunities to demonstrate their potential and learn.

During the session, Paulo Morgado, president of ARS/Algarve, after congratulating the new interns for having chosen the region for the internship, highlighted the proven experience of health professionals from hospital units and Health Centers in the region in training of inmates, which will allow them to “learn by doing”.

Finally, Paulo Morgado guaranteed that they will have all the necessary support and follow-up from CHUA and ARS Algarve during the training course they are now starting, inviting them to choose to stay and follow the course at the end of their training. his professional career in health units in the Algarve Region.

In addition to several service directors, representatives of the Board of Medical Internships were also present at the session, namely its Director, Ana Camacho, who highlighted the growing quality of training programs for young interns, highlighting the work developed by the clinical specialties, for its tutors and for the direction of the Medical Internship, as well as for the institution's strong connection to the university world, namely to the Medicine Course of the University of Algarve through the consortium between both intuitions, which gave rise to the Algarve Biomedical Center.
