The Portimão City Council has just been distinguished with two national awards, both in the sporting sphere. This recognition of good practices in the area of sports management of the MAD 2020 – Friends of Sport Municipalities program results from Portimão's applications for competitions promoted by the online platform social city, in the areas of Digital Presence and Covid-19 Intervention and related to sports practice.
The recognition plaques referring to each of these national awards must be presented in official sessions, to be held shortly.
In terms of the Covid-19 Intervention in 2020, Portimão was ranked 2nd in the Top 3 of municipalities with 50.000 to 100.000 inhabitants, between Felgueiras and Torres Vedras, while, in Digital Presence of Sport, Portimão this year led the table of municipalities in the same numerical band of inhabitants, just ahead of Vila do Conde and Paredes, which closed the podium.
Covid-19 did not prevent sports
The local authority stresses, in a press release, that this is “recognition of the serious and in-depth work that continued to be done in Portimão in the year that is about to end, despite the constraints inherent in the present pandemic, in particular in terms of exceptional support granted. the associative movement and intervention in municipal sports facilities, which were provided with adequate contingency plans to face Covid-19».
With regard to the digital presence in sport, between March and November this year measures were taken so that informal users continued to keep up the pace of their physical activity classes, especially with the use of online recording and transmission through the local authority's social networks, in addition to other actions.
All of this has been inspired by the motto “More Sport for All”, which guides the actions of the Municipality of Portimão in this area that is so strategic for the well-being of people of all ages.
These results are known precisely on the day when the main hall of the Paços do Concelho received, from 18 pm onwards, the launch of the book “European City of Sport 00”, which results from the photographic work of Miguel Veterano.
This is followed by the 2020 Sport Gala – Homage to the Portimonenses Champions, in which outstanding clubs and athletes will be distinguished during the last sporting season, with a total of 153 medals, which, stresses the municipality, «attests to the meritorious work developed. by the local associative movement in favor of the practice of sports in competition».
