Training for Home workers in Covid-19 outbreak management has already started in the Algarve.

The training that is now starting is part of the MTSSS home support program

Training in the area of Covid-19 outbreak management for workers in nursing homes has already started in the Algarve, an initiative that covers almost 1.500 people across the country.

According to a statement released by the Ministry of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security (MTSSS), the beginning of the training program for home workers in an outbreak context, in the Algarve, lasts 35 hours, over five days .

The initiative covers 1.440 people across the country in the coming months, who, the statement says, will have “essential skills to work in residential structures for the elderly with active covid-19 outbreaks”.

The Ministry explains that the program is an initiative of the Social Security and the Institute of Employment and Professional Training (IEFP) and that the training is free and given by specialized doctors and nurses, at the IEFP facilities around the country.

The training is given under a partnership of the Algarve Biomedical Center (Academic Center for Biomedical Research and Training of the Algarve), of the University of Algarve, with the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM).

The course has a theoretical component, at a distance, and a face-to-face component, and teaches, for example, how to use personal protective equipment, clean and disinfect or manage circuits, explained in the statement.

The Minister of Labor, Solidarity and Social Security, Ana Mendes Godinho, said, quoted in the document, that it is intended “to answer practical questions, but also to clarify possible doubts and to train workers in homes to manage outbreaks”.

And he adds: “The training and qualification of those who work in these institutions are essential in the current context, as well as the reinforcement of human resources. Under the program for strengthening human resources in homes (MAREESS), the placement of 12.250 people in these institutions has already been approved, with the program being extended until June 30, 2021 ”.

The training that is now beginning is part of the MTSSS home support program, under which 1.820 training actions have already been carried out by the Armed Forces in nursing homes, together with Social Security.

Other short training courses for the social sector have so far covered 2.200 trainees, according to the Ministry.

The workers of nursing homes or people who are selected within the scope of the Support Measure for the Emergency Reinforcement of Social and Health Facilities (MAREESS) can participate in the training actions.
