Covid-19: Vaccine has already been administered to 4.828 health professionals

The minister of Health revealed today Marta Temido

The vaccine against Covid-19 has already been administered to 4.828 health professionals, said today the Minister of Health, Marta Temido, based on the vaccine registration system, during a visit to the Hospital de Santa Maria, in Lisbon.

«Numbers from yesterday at the end of the day of the Vaccines system indicated that 4.828 doses had already been administered to professionals in these hospital centers: University Hospital Center of São João, University Hospital Center of Porto, University Hospital Center of Coimbra, University Hospital Center of Central Lisbon and university hospital center Lisboa Norte», he said.

According to the official, who has already visited the Curry Cabral Hospital today to accompany a vaccination action, the second delivery of vaccine doses from Pfizer-BioNTech will allow the vaccination process to be extended to «other hospitals of the National Health Service (SNS) – with the exception of some specialized hospitals which did not receive Covid patients and which at this stage do not have eligibility criteria – and also for clusters of health centres'.

"We believe we will be able to carry out the process by the end of tomorrow [Tuesday] of the vaccination of professionals eligible for this first moment", he stressed, ensuring that there will not be an exclusion from the private sector: "Health professionals are covered regardless of their employer and the option to start vaccinating in the NHS is related to its central character in the Portuguese health system. At another time, we will collect information from eligible professionals in other sectors and forward the doses».

Asked about the record of adverse reactions to the administration of vaccines in these first days, Marta Temido indicated that "few reactions" and only "mild" were reported, noting that "reactions are always monitored, recorded and reported" and that any medicine is 'not without risk', regardless of whether or not it is the Covid-19 vaccine.
