Almargem announces results of the “Loulé – Cadoiço e Megalapiás” project

Several proposals for a future intervention plan for these two areas will be debated.

The Almargem Association will release, on December 10th, starting at 18:30 pm, the final results of the “Loulé – Cadoiço e Megalapiás” project. 

At the round table “Cadoiço and Megalapiás: what future?” various proposals will be debated for a future intervention plan for these two areas, based either on the results obtained and on the suggestions of experts, or on the public participation of the general population, residents, users and entities responsible for managing the areas.

The opening will be attended by José Luís Raposo Victoriano, President of the Board of the Almargem Association, Vítor Aleixo, Mayor of Loulé, and Cristina Veiga-Pires, Scientific Director of the aspiring Geoparque Algarvensis Loulé-Silves-Albufeira. The moderation will be in charge of Joaquim Mealha, from Associação Almargem.

The “Loulé – Cadoiço e Megalapiás” project, which began in 2019 and with the collaboration of the Municipality of Loulé, had as its main objective to establish a solid and scientific database, in terms of history, geography, geology, cultural heritage , flora and fauna, for these two important places, but still unknown to many, located in the surroundings of the city of Loulé.

As a result, the prospects for the future of Ribeira do Cadoiço and Megalapiás do Barrocal, which are privileged places for visits, dissemination and environmental awareness. Although different, these two areas have long been recognized by Almargem for their historical, cultural and environmental value.

The coordination of this project was the responsibility of Associação Almargem and had the technical and scientific support of a multidisciplinary team, made up of experts in different areas of knowledge, from history and heritage, geodiversity, water quality, flora and vegetation (including invasive plants) , and fauna (insects, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals).
