Guided tours of Albufeira's old town restart in October

Visits are free but subject to prior registration.

The program of guided tours to the old center of Albufeira will be resumed on October 29th, announced the Municipality of Albufeira.

"The visits, which aim to promote the county's historical and cultural heritage and to make the city's urban center more dynamic, take place every Thursday, in Portuguese and English, except on holidays, until the 15th of June" , revealed the municipality.

The tours are free, but subject to prior registration, which must be made to the email [email protected] or telephone 289599502 «up to two days before the desired date».

«Come and discover the old center of Albufeira, through narrow alleys that remind you of the city's Moorish past. Discover the history, culture and traditions of our ancestors and take the opportunity to fill your lungs with the smell of the sea and your eyes with one of the most breathtaking views of the city's bay”», invites José Carlos Rolo, mayor of Albufeira.

«Albufeira doesn't stop, we have to keep going, supporting our economy, the economic agents and the tourist and cultural activity of the county. We had an atypical summer and the times to come, we already know that they will be difficult, so we have to know how to get around, appreciate what is good, in our history, culture, traditions, landscape and gastronomic richness», defended the Albufeirense mayor .

On the way, it is necessary to “bet on the diversification of tourism, in complementary areas that help to recover the economy and fight seasonality, among which are also, for example, visits to the Castle of Paderne, walking routes through the interior of the county and the different cultural programs».

The program “Discovering the Old Center of Albufeira”, which aims to make known the built heritage of greater touristic and historical interest in the locality, is conducted by technicians from the Municipal Tourism Division, in Portuguese and English, and has an approximate duration 2 hours. The meeting point is at 10:00 am, at Beato Vicente, Largo Jacinto d'Ayet, next to Santana Church (XNUMXth century).

«The group, consisting of a maximum of ten participants, continues the visit towards the Igreja Matriz (end of the XNUMXth century), passing by the Church of S. Sebastião (Museum of Sacred Art, no visit), Rua Pedro Samora, Rua Henrique Calado, visiting the Chapel of Misericórdia (XNUMXth century), Largo da República (Archaeology Museum, no visit) and, finally, Rua da Battery. If there is extra time, it is planned to continue the visit towards the Pier Herculano and Praia dos Pescadores, where the guided tour will be concluded», described the City Council of Albufeira.
