A Jazz for João de Deus in Messines

A concert of “Jazz for João de Deus”, this Sunday, 25th October, starting at 18 pm, marks the resumption of the celebrations of the 00th birthday of the poet and educator, born in São Bartolomeu de Messines (Silves). 

This initiative, by the Orquestra de Jazz do Algarve, takes place at the Francisco Vargas Mogo Auditorium, in the town of Messines.

In a press release, the Municipality of Silves says that “it aims for this commemorative program to be a small contribution so that the country, and in particular the younger generations, do not forget the one who was one of the greatest poets and most important educators of the century. XIX'.

The closing of the commemorations will take place on December 7, the day on which an extensive program of cultural events and activities is planned for this illustrious personality.

Some of the actions initially planned within the scope of the commemorations, namely journeys, tours, among others, were rescheduled for March 2021 and will take place within the scope of the commemorations of the poet's 191st birth anniversary.

Given the public health emergency, the distribution of vouchers for access to this Sunday's show “begins to be made available in the auditorium on the day of the show from 17:00. 70 vouchers will be made available that will allow access to the show in an outdated way».

The commemorations of the birthday of the author of the “Cartilha Maternal” are organized by the Municipality of Silves, through the Culture Sector and in collaboration with the Casa-Museu João de Deus.
