Tavira once again offers a birthday party to Álvaro de Campos

party lasts a month and a half

Álvaro de Campos' Birthday Party is back and will promote shows, cinema, exhibitions and poetry sessions in different spaces in Tavira and online from Thursday 15th to 30th November.

The association Partilha Alternativa once again promotes this event that celebrates Fernando Pessoa, through one of his heteronyms, Álvaro de Campos, the Tavirense engineer imagined by the Portuguese poet.

«The purpose of this celebration, in addition to honoring an important author, is to present artists from Tavira, professionals and non-professionals, to the public. In order to develop a healthy artistic and cultural infrastructure, artists deserve solid support from the city where they live and work, but they also need to be seen,” according to Partilha Alternativa.

This year "there is a special focus on Scottish poets who will contribute with their presence (both physical and virtual), and with their poems."

On the 15th, several exhibitions will be inaugurated, namely: “Faces, profiles and gestures”, at Artesis Galeria (collective exhibition of visual arts); “In Citação |E a Cabra”, by Isabel Macieira, at Casa Álvaro de Campos (visual arts exhibition); “Everything is new where I was old”, by Jorge Jubilot, at Casa Álvaro de Campos (photo exhibition); “Notes on Tavira”, at the Andrade Casa Fotografia Museum (photographs from the Andrade family collection); Pessoa(s) from Tavira, by Rui Cansado Guedes, at Clube de Tavira (documentary exhibition) and “Um Retrato de Mãe”, by Carlos Fonseca Martins, at Galeria Tavira D'Artes (painting exhibition).

Also on the 15th, the initiative “The table set with more glasses | Doce Pessoa” in several restaurants in Tavira and the section “Moment of poetry” will be launched on Gilão radio. On the same day, there will be the kick-off for the activity “Verses a Giz”, which will take place until November 30th, in various locations.

On Friday, at the Node de Gosto, there will be a Philosophical Café, hosted by the philosopher Maria João Neves, which will focus on the theme “Fernando Pessoa and Racism”.
