Algarve Tourism Films win 3 prizes at Finisterra festival

“Eurovelo 1”, “The Algarve is good for you” and “Your smile is one of the Algarve's secrets” were the award-winning films

Three promotional films from Turismo do Algarve were distinguished at the Finisterra – Arrábida FilmArt&Tourism Festival, whose awards ceremony took place yesterday, Thursday, in Sesimbra.

The Algarve films achieved 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in different categories of this competition that awards the best national and international tourist promotion films.

The 1st prize was won for the film “Eurovelo 1”, about the transnational cycling route EuroVelo 1 – Atlantic Coast Route, in the sport category.

«Created by DNA Films, the video promotes the EuroVelo 1 route, which combines the majestic fjords of Norway, the wild coast of Ireland and the beaches of Portugal over more than 9100 kilometers, crossing the Algarve in a route of over 200 kilometers », according to the Algarve Tourism Region.

The film “The Algarve is good for you”, launched in June to motivate tourists to enjoy their summer holidays in the Algarve, came in second in the category “Best Advertising Tourism Film”, “one of the main ones at this festival”.

Developed by New Light Pictures for the Algarve Tourism Region (RTA) and the Algarve Tourism Association (ATA), the film is directed by João Pedro Viegas and «has as protagonists one of the most successful international travel influencer couples of the today – the @explorerssaurus».

“The Algarve is good for you” was “one of the most popular videos on Youtube in Portugal in the month of August”.

The other awarded film was “Your smile is one of the Algarve's secrets”, which took 3rd place in the hospitality category.

«Designed in 2019 by New Light Pictures for RTA, and once again directed by João Pedro Viegas, this video was designed as a way of thanking the residents of the Algarve who over the years have contributed to making the region the destination of millions of Portuguese and foreigners”, according to Turismo do Algarve.

“At such a delicate time as we are currently living, these awards have a special symbolism. They are an acknowledgment for the work that we have been developing to promote the Algarve on multiple fronts, since the cycling&walking, including other nature tourism activities, the star product that is sun and sea, to close communication with those who most contribute to the success of the region – the Algarve. They give us more encouragement for future challenges and make us want to continue to give more and better for this region», considered João Fernandes, president of Turismo do Algarve.

In 2020, the Finisterra festival had 101 films from 49 countries in competition, which competed in various categories, from documentary to timelaps.
