The Algarve has a transmission risk rate (Rt) of 0,91, the lowest in the country, announced this Wednesday, October 14, Health Minister Marta Temido, at the Covid-19 balance sheet press conference, in which the Sul Informação participated. This is a "very encouraging number", considered the ruler.

According to data revealed at the press conference, the Rt, at national level, was, from 5th to 10th of October, in 1,2. The region where it was highest was in the North (1,34) and the Algarve where it was lowest (0,91), which corresponds, on average, to 34 new cases per day in the Algarve region.

Questioned by Sul Informação on the Algarve's capacity to respond to the increase in cases across the country, Marta Temido referred to the “very encouraging” number of the Rt.

«It shows that, despite the vacation period of many in the Algarve, we managed to take measures and prevent infections», he explained.

Moreover, the official considered that "a significant effort has been made" to improve the capacity of hospital response "in all regions of the country".

At this press conference, the number of active outbreaks in the Algarve was also revealed: 18. «They are very few, fortunately. Most arose in the family pattern and there are only two very small outbreaks in homes: one with two people infected and the other with three», said Graça Freitas, general director of Health.

Related to these outbreaks in homes, there is only “one person in hospital and no deaths”. To this is added the outbreak at the Hospital de Faro, «already known», he added.

It is certain that, even from this point of view, the Algarve «is a quiet area at the moment», concluded Graça Freitas.
