10-metre dwarf whale lands on the coast already dead at Praia da Rocha

Cetacean will be removed to the Windward Sanitary Landfill

A dwarf whale «between 9 and 10 meters» washed ashore this Tuesday, already dead, near the Praia da Rocha jetty.

Commander Rodrigo Gonzalez dos Paços, captain of the Port of Portimão, told the Sul Informação that the cetacean “must have died a few days ago, because it's already a little pink”.

There are the Maritime Police, as well as the Municipal Civil Protection services. "We have already communicated to the ICNF," added the official, adding that the whale "will be removed to landfill when appropriate."

The operatives were just waiting for the tide to come down further in order to facilitate the removal of the whale's corpse.
