AHETA calls on the Government to continue F1 and MotoGP Grand Prix in the Algarve

These events, defends AHETA, are part of «a set of anchor events that the Algarve needs to mitigate its greatest weakness – seasonality»

The Association of Hotels and Touristic Enterprises of the Algarve (AHETA) welcomes the holding of the Formula 1 and Moto GP Grand Prix in the region, calling on the Government to help «guarantee their continuity in the coming years».

These events, defends AHETA, are part of «a set of half a dozen anchor events that the Algarve needs to mitigate its greatest weakness – seasonality».

“When held in periods of lower demand, events of this nature generate important tourist flows for the region, also functioning as privileged means of tourist promotion and dissemination, given their high international media coverage”, adds this association.

"Thus, it makes sense that the competent entities, namely the Government, develop actions to ensure its continuity in the following years, especially since the Algarve has infrastructure and equipment capable of effectively responding to demand in this matter."

“The impact on the regional and national economy and the multiplier effect on life and society in the places and regions where the tests take place is enormous, reaching five to six times the investment costs”, adds AHETA.

In this sense, the association, led by Elidérico Viegas, calls on the «Government to, in concert with the responsible regional and national entities, make the necessary efforts, with a view to ensuring the permanence of the Formula 1 Grand Prix and the Grand Prix of Moto GP in the Algarve in the years to come».
