Loulé celebrates World Music Day with Jorge Palma, “O Gajo” and Cristina Branco

Program lasts for five days

Concerts by Jorge Palma, “O Gajo” and Cristina Branco are highlights of the eclectic culture program that Loulé has prepared to celebrate, from 1st to 5th October, World Music Day. 

One of the highlights is the concert that brings together, in an unprecedented way, from a commission by the Cineteatro Louletano, the composer and performer Jorge Palma (who this year celebrates 70 years) and the Loulé Jazz Trio, a project supported by the Autarchy from Loulé and which intends to spread the jazz tradition to the south and the cultural dynamics of Loulé. It will take place this Thursday, October 1st, at 21 pm, at the Cineteatro, and is part of the cycle 'O Longe é Aqui'.

The 8100 Café, in the Municipal Park of Loulé, proposes for the 1st of October, from 17 pm, an open stage for musical sharing, challenging all those who want to show their talent in this area.

The well-known bar bafo de Baco – which since 1992 has carried out a valuable regular work of promoting artistic projects in the south in various musical quarters – also celebrates this ephemeris, with musical moments by Brian Rockindad (on 2 October at 22 pm) and by DJ Greaser (October 00rd at the same time).

On the 11nd of October, 2 da Villa, in the Historic Center of Loulé, will present the band Road 31 and, on the 3rd, the well-known duo Luís Galrito ​​& António Hilário, always at 22 pm.

Also on October 1st, the association Mákina de Cena promotes an online event, at 18 pm, on its Facebook page in which it will present its new musical project CAL Jazz Collective, involving musicians from the Algarve region, which will have national debut in 00 at stage of the Cineteatro Louletano.

On October 2nd, an Ensemble of the Orquestra Clássica do Sul brings Querença, in the auditorium of the Manuel Viegas Guerreiro Foundation, at 21 pm, with a chamber music concert under the motto 'Sons of the New World'. The program includes works by S. Barber, G. Gershwin, Meza and A. Piazolla, and admission is free and limited.

Another unavoidable concert is the proposal that the association Folha de Medronho – Performing Arts brings to Loulé on October 3rd, at 21 pm, in the Auditorium of Solar da Música Nova, with the support of the Autarchy.

“O Gajo”, the artistic pseudonym of João Morais, was born in 2016 and, connecting music to the earth, intends to explore the sonic and expressive potential of viola campaniça, with a contemporary reinterpretation that sounds like fado and traditional music, but which ventures new ones shades and environments.

Finally, to close this program, Cristina Branco, one of the most acclaimed Portuguese performers, makes the national debut in Loulé, on the Cineteatro stage, of her new album 'Eva', following the artistic residency promoted in the city in 2019. It will be on the 5th of October at 21 pm.
