Government extends contingency situation in mainland Portugal until 14 October

The Government's decision was announced by the Minister of State and Presidency Mariana Vieira da Silva

The Council of Ministers decided, this Thursday, 24th of September, to extend the validity of the contingency situation in Mainland Portugal until 23:59 on 14th October, in view of an increase in the number of Covid-19 cases in the last five weeks.

The Government's decision was announced by the Minister of State and Presidency Mariana Vieira da Silva, adding that the contingency situation in mainland Portugal will be reassessed by the executive within two weeks, then with a more in-depth analysis of the impact of the first weeks of classes in schools.

Following the evolution of the epidemiological situation of covid-19 in Portugal, in the Council of Ministers held on the 10th, the Government decided to declare the contingency situation in all the mainland national territory.

This resolution declaring the contingency situation, with the establishment of individual and collective protection rules for citizens, entered into force at 00:00 on September 15th and will be extended to 23:50 on the 30th of this month.

Madeira is in a situation of calamity, decreed by the Regional Government, until the end of September, the same level maintained by the Government of the Azores until 1 October on the five islands with air connections to the outside of the archipelago (Santa Maria, São Miguel, Terceira, Pico and Faial).

The remaining four Azorean islands (Graciosa, São Jorge, Flores and Corvo) remain on alert until the same date.
