This week, the Municipality of Castro Marim and the Algarve Tourism Region were awarded the National Bike Mobility Award, an initiative of the Portuguese Federation of Cycle Tourism and Bicycle Users.
A Lezíria Bike Path, with a length of 3 kilometers, linking Vila Real de Santo António to Castro Marim, also allowing access to the interior of the Sapal Nature Reserve, which was inaugurated in February this year, is the reason for the awarding of the award to the municipality of Castro Marim, precisely in the category of Municipalities and Parishes.
In the case of the Algarve Tourism Region, awarded in the category of Public Entities, the award recognizes the work developed to make the region a European reference destination for the cycling.
The awards ceremony for the 17th edition of the National Bike Mobility Award took place on Thursday, the XNUMXth, in the auditorium of the Orlando Ribeiro Municipal Library, in Lisbon.
The FPCUB decided to create, in 2006, the National Award “Mobility by Bicycle” in order to publicly recognize the contribution of certain entities or individuals who have promoted the use of bicycles in its multiple aspects, through the creation or improvement of conditions and facilities in Portugal and/or the dissemination of initiatives promoting the use of this non-motorized mode of transport.
Within the scope of the attribution of the National Prize “Mobility by Bike”, several categories are considered annually.
