Rota Vicentina calls for an end to wild camping and caravanning

According to the association, it is currently "frequent to find garbage and human waste along the coast"

The phenomenon of camping and wild caravanning in the Algarve "has long since surpassed the real carrying capacity of the region", warned the Rota Vicentina association, which went public appealing for "a conscious conduct" on the part of all who visit the region. Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vicentina, avoiding these practices.

At issue is, according to Rota Vicentina, the growing number of people camping or parking motorhomes outside the permitted places, which means that it is now «frequently to find garbage and human waste along the coast».

Bearing in mind that «sustainability is the main motivation for the work of this Association of agents and local inhabitants, Rota Vicentina calls for a conscientious behavior on the part of all visitors, with emphasis on the practice of camping and caravanning, which must take place exclusively at campsites in the region'.

"It is with great concern that the local inhabitants note a growing trend of camping and wild caravanning on the cliffs and beaches of the region, abusive parking in urban car parks and on the beaches themselves, private land and areas where circulation is even prohibited, with the respective consequences in terms of landscape, environmental and social impacts», describes Rota Vicentina.

The alert comes in a summer in which there has been «great interest and adhesion to the pedestrian and cycling trails of the Rota Vicentina and to the enjoyment of the magnificent Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vicentina by the Portuguese, as well as by some foreign tourists who continue to arrive».

«As a Natural Park, Rota Vicentina defends responsible conduct and contained in the legal framework that prohibits wild camping and caravanning, but above all, a greater co-responsibility of all lovers of this wild coast, so that it can remain so. for many years», calls the association.

The Rota Vicentina Association is a non-profit association, responsible for managing the Rota Vicentina project, supported by a network of 200 companies from different sectors, as well as international tour operators.
