The accordionist and composer from the Algarve, Nelson Conceição won this morning, in the United States of America, the award International Portuguese Music Awards, in the category “Best Instrumental Performance”, with the theme “Mister Machado”, by his authorship, dedicated to his first accordion teacher, Joaquim Machado.

In addition to the theme "Mister Machado", Nelson Conceição was also nominated in the category Best Traditional Performance with the theme “Charolesca” dedicated to the tradition of Charolas de Bordeira, which he considers his cradle of music.

Initially, the IPMA awards ceremony, which rewards Portuguese artists, including from Portuguese-speaking countries and descendants in different categories, was scheduled for April 25 with a presentation by Daniela Ruah.

However, due to the pandemic, it took place on the 2nd of August, virtually, and had the participation of several artists (João Pedro Pais, Áurea, Pedro Abrunhosa, Miguel Ângelo, Carlão, among others) and a presentation by Sónia Araújo .

According to Nelson Conceição, «the nominations had already been a very gratifying acknowledgment of his album “Descobrindo-me”, an album that portrays a little of my life, so it is important to share all the recognitions with all the players on the album, especially the musicians : Cristina Paulo, João Pedro Cunha, Luís Henrique, Ivo Martins, Cláudio Sousa, Ricardo Martins and Paulo Machado».

Upon receiving his award, Nelson Conceição insisted on dedicating the award to his family, friends and all those who have followed and applauded him throughout his life, not forgetting his masters and his Bordeira land and their ancestors who so much inspire you.

Finally, he thanked the Santa Bárbara de Nexe Parish Council, Associação Mito Algarvio, Beltuna Portugal for their support «and, above all, Loulé City Council and Dália Paulo for the partnership and impetus they gave for the album to emerge».
