Joana Schenker won the 1st stage of the National Bodyboard 2020 Circuit

National champion in the Algarve title started the competition in the best way

The Algarve's Joana Schenker began to defend the title of national champion in the best possible way by winning the first stage of the National Bodyboard Credit Agricultural 2020 Circuit, which took place this weekend at Praia do Mirante, in Santa Cruz.

The athlete from the Sagres Bodyboard Association, from Vila do Bispo, faced strong competition and, despite having won all heats, had to strive for victory.

«It was a good stress to go back to competition. I felt a little nervous and pressured in this final, which was not easy, but luckily a good wave appeared for me. But we all surfed well in the final and it was good to be able to impose myself and win», revealed Joana Schenker after the race.

The difficulties were created by the Nazarene Teresa Almeida, the runner-up, but also by Rita Pires, the former national champion for 11 times who returned to the competition, and by the local athlete Mariana Machado.

«I loved this championship, it was a success from beginning to end. We had the return of Rita Pires, a very important athlete for me at the beginning of my competitive career, and who surfed very well. It was good to feel the pressure of having Rita there again. But I really liked the organization, the webcast, and I felt really good competing because I felt I was in the right place. Everything is going well in a very professional championship and I just have to congratulate everyone involved», added the athlete vila bispense, national champion in title.

The next stage of the championship takes place on the 19th and 20th of September, in Peniche.
