Student of Tomás Cabreira distinguished in the “ABCovid.pt” school competition

Ana Sofia Barradas won an honorable mention

Ana Sofia Barradas, student at Tomás Cabreira Secondary School, from Faro, received an honorable mention in the intermediate phase of the “ABCovid.pt” school competition and went on to the final phase of this initiative, whose objective is to disseminate messages that help to live protected from the new coronavirus.

The 18-year-old Algarvian girl was recognized for her video “Interview with SARS CoV-2”, which has as central elements three of the things we use to defend ourselves against Covid-19: mask, disinfectant gel and soap.

With the passage to the final phase, the Tomás Cabreira student is able to win one of the prizes, in the amount of 3 thousand, 1500 and 1000 euros, from the 1st to the 3rd.

The student from the Farense school participated in the eighth and penultimate week of the competition, a stage that was won by Rui Pereira Reis, 17, a student at the Escola Profissional de Comunicação e Imagem, in Lisbon.

«The ABCovid.pt competition is exclusively aimed at primary and secondary school students, between the ages of 10 and 20, and every week awards a prize of 350 euros to the authors of the best video», according to Hovione, a multinational with headquarters in Loures that «researches and develops new chemical processes and produces active ingredients for the pharmaceutical industry worldwide».

The national jury that will evaluate these works brings together researchers Alexandre Quintanilha, from I3S, Pedro Simas, from IMM, Mafalda Paiva, from Hovione, and youtuber Sofia Barbosa.
