10th edition of Farcume starts tomorrow and goes through Faro, Olhão, Loulé and Tavira

Algarvian director Vera Casaca will present a film

O Farcume – Short Film Festival of Faro is back, for its 10th edition, between 14 and 29 August, and will go through Faro, Olhão, Loulé and Tavira.

According to Bruno Lage, founder and director of Farcume, «it's been 10 years of dedication, always with the objective of seeking, within an informal, cheerful and relaxed environment, to reward and recognize the work, creativity and merit of the directors, actors and technical teams that, without having the budgets of the Hollywood film industry, do excellent work in a few minutes of history and cinema».

According to Faro 1540, which promotes the festival, «the programming of this edition will be organized in six competition sessions and one retrospective, for which we selected nine short films awarded in previous editions of the festival».

In the competition sessions, 58 films from 21 countries will be presented to the public, corresponding to three categories: fiction, documentary and animation.

This year, the opening session will be dedicated to Spanish film production.

There are eleven short films from the neighboring country, whose presence at Farcuma «has been guided by the quantity and quality of the films in competition».

«This is an international program, which offers viewers the opportunity to discover filmmakers with very different cultural origins, styles and sensibilities, which, we are certain, will allow a comprehensive and polysemic look at cinema and the contemporary world in which we live. », highlights Jorge Carrega, programmer at Farcume.

The competition ends this year with a session entirely dedicated to Portuguese cinema. The highlight goes to the presence of the Algarvian director Vera Casaca and the director Hugo Pinto, who will both present two short films.

We organize this edition “with a renewed awareness of our role, but also with new and essential requirements. It was necessary to reinvent, reformulate, readapt the promotion of culture. We discovered the power of resilience and safely reinforced the commitment of cinema, for everyone and with everyone, in a new format. Faced with the challenges imposed, the Festival managed to guarantee its continuity, switching from the exclusivity of the traditional room to online exhibition, as a complement, and allowing the selected short films to be expanded to a greater number of people», emphasizes Paulo de Oliveira Botelho, president of the Direction of the Faro 1540.
