Inframoura is currently the only company in its sector (municipal services) certified for the entire set of its activities, through the international standard ISO 50 001, announced the Câmara de Loulé.
ISO 50 001 is an international standard that helps to reduce consumption, minimize the carbon footprint and reduce costs by promoting sustainable energy use.
ISO 50 001 - Energy management systems requires the fulfillment of a series of requirements, namely the constant monitoring of all consumption and activities of daily operational management and also a set of obligations at the organization level, in the design of systems, procurement and task planning.
«This is another step, taken by Inframoura, towards the realization of its sustainability strategy, investing in the affirmation of Vilamoura as an environmentally responsible territory with the best quality of life», stresses the municipality, in a press release.
For those responsible at Inframoura, the investments made in new equipment with the most modern and efficient technology, the training of employees and the improvement of work practices are a fundamental contribution to future generations and to maintaining the excellence of the territory they manage.
The chairman of the Board of Directors of Inframoura considers that «this was a challenge that we embraced with the strong conviction that, with it, we would consolidate a set of investments that the company has made, such as renewable energies or electric vehicles, the bet in efficiency and in good operational practices and the reinforcement of the teams' internal skills, thus ensuring that the gains are lasting and continuous».
The president of the Municipality of Loulé, holder of the majority of the capital of the municipal company Inframoura, reinforces that «issues associated with Energy Efficiency are priority actions within the scope of municipal action, being a matter that is being dealt with transversally, in various projects and initiatives of the Municipality».
For Vítor Aleixo, «the recent achievement of certification under the ISO 50001 standard – Inframoura's energy management, demonstrates the commitment of this company and continuous focus for the best energy performance».
The certification had the support of the Regional Agency for Energy and Environment of the Algarve, allowing the systematic operationalization of Inframoura's decarbonization plan, which aims to reduce, by 2028, 30% of its greenhouse gas emissions.
The demanding certification, recently achieved, was granted by SGS, Societe Generale de Surveillance, world leader in inspection, verification and certification, based in Switzerland.
What is ISO 50 001?
ISO 50 001 is a standard that promotes continuous improvement in efficient energy management, with a view to achieving improvements in energy performance and promoting good practices of this energy performance in suppliers.
Modus Operandi to obtain the certification
In order to obtain this international certification, Inframoura analyzed, in detail, the way it consumes energy and identified the most significant consumptions, namely in the process of supply water, wastewater and urban cleaning, among others.
Based on this analysis, Inframoura defined and implemented an energy management system aimed at energy efficiency and controlling the consequent reduction in costs associated with the share of energy in the company.
How SGS verified this modus operandi?
Recognition of the methodology and respective results, with a view to certification, was made through proof of transparency and communication in the management of energy sources and evaluation of the implementation of new energy technologies.
Support and partnerships
In this certification process, Inframoura had the support of the Regional Agency for Energy and Environment of the Algarve, whose partnership allowed the systematic operationalization of Inframoura's decarbonization plan, which aims, by 2028, to reduce 30% of its gas emissions. greenhouse.
Municipal Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change
This certification is the recognition of Inframoura's work and effort in the field of efficient energy management and allows the company to continuously improve energy performance, reducing operating costs and the emission of greenhouse gases, thus meeting the Strategy Municipal Council for Adaptation to Climate Change in the Municipality of Loulé.
The Loulé Municipal Climate Change Adaptation Strategy (EMAAC de Loulé) focuses on identifying planned adaptation options and actions that promote mitigation of the effects of climate change.
From the identification and prioritization of current climate vulnerabilities and risks and their projection until the end of the century, the municipality of Loulé seeks to promote an integrated set of adaptation options to respond not only to the future climate, but also to different climate impacts already observed.
