Hotel and Tourism School is preparing meals for families in need

«This help from the Algarve Hotel and Tourism School makes all the difference», stresses the Refood coordinator Faro

More than 100 meals, 35 servings of cakes and some leftover food are being delivered every week to the center of Faro of Refood by the Hotel and Tourism School of the Algarve.

These foods are made by the students of the Kitchen Management and Production class during the practical on-site classes that are taking place this July.

The products that the school has in stock and that need to be made are added to the food that students use in learning moments and that then need to be disposed of.

The pastry groups also contribute to these donations with dozens of doses of desserts, the result of the work carried out in the practical sessions.

«We are keen to promote this partnership whenever possible, as we have the products in stock and we know that there are those who need them. It is the students who do it. Last week we cooked fish and I already know that next week it will be rabbit», says the Head Luis Caboz, trainer at EHTA.

The fact is that, at this time of the Covid-19 pandemic, in just two months the number of people receiving food aid from the Covid-XNUMX unit has doubled. Faro of Refood. Of the nearly 300 beneficiaries, 100 are children.

«This help from the Algarve Hotel and Tourism School makes all the difference because the food arrives to us already prepared. And this is very important. The day we went to get the fish doses we had nothing. We have established new partnerships with hypermarkets, but the food is not always prepared and we have nowhere to cook it», emphasizes Paula Matias, coordinator of Refood Faro.

While the in-person practical classes are taking place, EHTA says that “it will continue to support weekly the various entities and institutions that provide food aid to the most needy families. With the beginning of the next school year, this support will be regular again, as it always happened in the past».
