Portimão sets sanitary safety rules for outdoor pools

The resolution was unanimously approved

The Portimão City Council has already defined rules for the use of outdoor swimming pools. The municipality stipulated that, to calculate the maximum capacity at any time in the municipality's outdoor swimming pools (those for collective use), the ratio of one person per 8 square meters should be used, considering only the water plan, that is, the total area of the pool.

This decision, unanimously approved, took into account the current epidemiological context and the fact that swimming pools are recreational spaces visited every year by thousands of people.

“It is important to define aspects of its functioning and use, in order to mitigate the risk of contamination through the respiratory secretions (coughing and sneezing) of an infected person, as a direct transmission vehicle,” says the Portimão Chamber.

Examples are swimming pools in tourist developments, hotel units, in common use in a condominium of a building, for example, among other situations of collective use of this type of equipment.

The adopted proposal "considers it imperative to comply with the general measures to combat the pandemic defined by the health authorities, highlighting frequent hand hygiene, respiratory etiquette, cleaning and sanitizing spaces and the use of masks by professionals supporting swimming pools ».

This decision is based on Decree-Law No. 24/2020, of 25 May, which regulates the access, occupation and use of bathing beaches for the bathing season and whose rules also apply – with the necessary adaptations – the operation of outdoor pools.

Order No. 6134-A/2020, of June 5th, is also evoked, which establishes that the maximum occupancy allowed in outdoor pools will depend on the necessary restrictions to comply with the rules of hygiene and physical distance between users, being defined by the municipalities the maximum number of attendances that can be admitted.
