Ana Castro, a 43-year-old oncologist from Lisbon who was assigned to the Central Administration of Health Services, was chosen by the Government to lead the Board of Directors of the University Hospital Center of the Algarve (CHUA) and to replace Ana Paula Gonçalves, in the position whose functions had already finished in december, advanced the weekly Expresso.

Paulo Neves, former administrator of the Group Private Hospitals in Portugal and defeated candidate for the Chamber of Faro by PS in 2013, he will be the executive member for the legal area, added the same newspaper.

Patrícia Rego, a lawyer who was until now the administrator of Hospital de Portimão, will be the other executive member, in this case, for the management area.

Also according to Expresso, the new Clinical Director is neurosurgeon Joaquim Pedro, the current director of the Neurosurgery department at the Hospital de Faro, and the head nurse is Mariana Santos, who had already held the same position in 2006 at the then Hospital do Barlavento Algarvio, when Luís Batalau was director of this unit.

The weekly added that the names "still have to be validated by the Commission for Recruitment and Selection for Public Administration (Cresap) and then confirmed by the executive, which should never happen before mid-July."

In March, the Secretary of State for Health Jamila Madeira had promised a "solution that will serve users well", on a visit to the hospital of Faro.

That solution could have come up sooner, namely in April, but was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, added the Expresso.
