Associação das Terras do Infante says that the articulation of means was "determining" in the fire

Despite the rapid action, which prevented an even greater fire and damage, the fire consumed 2200 hectares

The Associação das Terras do Infante says that the articulation of means was "determining" to manage to dominate the fire that started in Aljezur, last Friday, the 19th, and spread to the municipalities of Vila do Bispo and Lagos.

Indeed, the three municipalities affected by the fire are the three that make up the Terras do Infante Association: Aljezur, Lagos and Vila do Bispo.

In a press release, Terras do Infante - Association of Municipalities «recognizes the good articulation and thanks the tireless work carried out by all professionals from the fire brigades, the GNR, Civil Protection and the District Command of Operations (CDOS), involved in this occurrence".

«The existence of the Association itself, which has forest planning and management as one of its main focuses of action, was reaffirmed by the articulation of various means between the three municipalities, not only with regard to fire detection and combat, as has now happened. , but also in the prevention and surveillance carried out, on an ongoing basis, by the teams of forest sappers», he adds.

«Despite the numerous interventions for cleaning and clearing land, opening and maintaining fire breaks, fires end up breaking out, most often due to lack of care in the use of agricultural machinery, carrying out burnings and fires, as well as caused by other human activities other than those directly linked to agriculture», he says.

For this reason, the association “calls for strict compliance with the rules and procedures that are defined, before, during or after the critical period of rural fires (which runs from 1st July to 30th September, which may be extended).

This fire, which has since been extinguished, mobilized more than 800 workers from 94 entities.

Despite the rapid action, which prevented a fire of even greater proportions and damage, the fire consumed 2200 hectares.

“A great environmental heritage has been lost, but thanks to teamwork, collaboration and mutual help, there is no record of any victims”, concludes the press release.
