German travel agents become Algarve 'reporters'

In 2019, the Algarve registered the visit of around 360 thousand guests from Germany

Algarve Tourism challenged a group of German travel agents to become reporters from the region and to produce a series of content, text and image, with the aim of making this destination known to professional colleagues operating in this market, through their eyes, testimonies and personal experiences.

The initiative “Become a reporter for the Algarve” started last February, when the participating agents were in the region to get to know and document some of the main points of interest of the destination and the diversity of experiences that visitors can find there. .

Armed with all the tools that real reporters use in their work to create content, these professionals had the opportunity, over five days, to carry out surprising activities such as preparing a traditional Algarve cataplana, tasting regional products in an organic garden , take a walk along the coast along the Seven Valleys Suspended route – voted last year as the best trail in Europe -, explore the interior of the region on an off-road tour or admire the beauty of the park's landscapes from Ria Formosa on a boat trip, among other programs.

During the visit, the participants had the support of the editorial team of two of the main news platforms dedicated to the tourism sector in Germany – Counter vor 9 and Schmetterling vor 9 – in preparing and editing the content produced.

The coverage of this trip, as well as the articles and images that resulted from it, will now be published in these two specialized channels, at the end of June.

Daily, and for two weeks, the Algarve will be highlighted through a set of contents where diverse themes will be discussed, such as culture, heritage, gastronomy or the nature of this destination.

“Those who visit us are, without a doubt, the ones who can best promote our destination. Sharing their testimonies, emotions and personal perspectives on the Algarve convey an authentic message about the richness and quality of the region's offer and generate trust and a very effective word of mouth”, defends João Fernandes, president of Turismo do Algarve.

“An action with these characteristics gains special relevance at a time when some of the connections between the airport of Faro and this market, namely through the companies TUI Germany – which, since the 17th of June, has been offering flights from Dusseldorf and Frankfurt – and by Eurowings – which, since the 20th of June, has been offering flights from Dusseldorf, Stuttgart, Cologne and Hamburg”, he explains.

At a time when we are witnessing the gradual return of international tourists to the region, Turismo do Algarve hopes that “the impact of this action can contribute to strengthening the reputation and the differentiating positioning of the destination in the German market – the second largest source of tourists for the region – and, at the same time, to restore confidence and the desire to travel”.

In 2019, the Algarve registered the visit of around 360 thousand guests from Germany, which corresponded to approximately 1,9 million overnight stays.
