The 22 migrants, from North Africa and who, last Monday, June 15, landed on the beach at Vale do Lobo, stayed in Temporary Installation Centers (CIT) as a coercion measure.

Yesterday, the 16th, the men were present at the Judicial Court of Loulé, and the installation in a Temporary Installation Center (CIT) for removal from national territory under the expulsion process for irregular entry and stay in national territory», explains the Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF), in a statement.

The migrants were transported, last night, to the CIT at the Santo António Housing Unit, in Porto, to the Space Equipped with a Temporary Installation Center (EECIT) at Porto Airport and to the EECIT at Porto Airport. Faro.

This group was under the care of the Aliens and Borders Service, “which developed the necessary procedures to establish their identities, once they arrived undocumented”.

Last Monday, at the end of the day and even before being presented to court, they were transferred to the National Republican Guard posts and Public Security Police stations in the district of Faro, where they stayed overnight.

“Citizens were always guaranteed basic needs, including food and medical assistance”, guarantees the SEF.

Even on the day they arrived, the migrants were tested on Covid-19 and all "were negative".

In recent months, this was the fourth attempt to land migrants from North Africa intercepted on the Algarve coast. On the past 6th, another boat with 6 migrants, who also claimed to be Moroccans, had already been intercepted inside the Ria Formosa.

On January 29th, the same thing had happened, with a vessel with 11 migrants, coming from El Jadida, a Moroccan coastal town, who were caught in front of the Barra da Armona.

The first group of Moroccan migrants had arrived in the Algarve on the 11th of December, when 8 young people who also claimed to come from El Jadida (the former Portuguese Mazagão) landed on the beach of Monte Gordo, where they were intercepted by the authorities.
