A vessel with seven migrants on board was intercepted by the Maritime Police of Faro and from Olhão today, Saturday, around 12:00, in the Ria Formosa. According to the National Maritime Authority (AMN), the men are between 20 and 30 years old and claim to be Moroccans.

The alert was given by a playful fisherman, who called the local Command of the Maritime Police of Faro «realizing that there would be a vessel with men on board, appearing to be lost, near the bar Faro-Olhão, having immediately activated two Maritime Police vessels, one of Faro and another from Olhão, to the site».

"The vessels made the interception of the referred vessel already inside the Ria Formosa, between the Hangares and Culatra Nucleus," added the Maritime Authority.

The Maritime Police accompanied the vessel to the quay of the Life Saving Station in Olhão, «the seven men disembarking and being taken to the local Command of the Maritime Police in Olhão, where they are being observed by an INEM team. , awaiting the arrival of the Aliens and Borders Service».

Meanwhile, the Aliens and Borders Service reported that the seven migrants, who were traveling "in a small motor boat", are already in their charge and that "the necessary procedures are being developed to establish their identities, as well as assess the framework of the situation'.

Men have already had access "to basic needs, including food and medical care."

«Tests will be carried out to screen COVID-19, still in the afternoon, by the Algarve Biomedical Center of the University of Algarve», added AMN.
