Late wages and a lack of information about what their future will be are making the nearly 500 employees of the JJW Hotels & Resorts Group, which owns the five-star hotels Penina, in Alvor, and Dona Filipa, in Vale do Lobo, desperate. as well as the Formosa Park, in Ancão, and the San Lorenzo and Pinheiros Altos golf courses, in Quinta do Lago, in Almancil.
“They paid their March salary in two installments, 270 and 410 euros, they didn't pay the April salary and they never told us anything again – if we were going to lay off, how would it be. Nothing. The situation had already been denounced by the Union of workers in the Hotel, Tourism, Restaurant and Similar Industry of the Algarve, which, in the last week of April, said that about two thirds of the employees of this group, held by the multimillionaire sheik Mohamed Bin Issa Al Jaber, they still hadn't received the month of March.
At the time, the union promoted a demonstration in Quinta do Lago, in front of the house of one of the hotel owners' children.
Although workers have already received their March salary, paid in installments, the Sul Informação found that there are employees who are still waiting to receive this month's salary.
Meanwhile, the administration of JJW Hotels & Resorts admitted to Negócios that the group is late in paying its April salary, "but that it should be paid this week."
