Chambers of Olhão and Praia da Vitória want a meeting with the Government to contest accession to the II League

"It is entirely fair that the FPF be challenged out loud and that its decision – unprecedented in legal terms – affects not just two clubs, but two councils and two communities that deserve another respect."

The Chambers of Olhão and Praia da Vitória (Azores) will jointly request a meeting with the Secretary of State for Youth and Sport to challenge the decision of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) to block access to the Praiense and Olhanense to the II Football League.

The local authorities “understand that the decision of the FPF to conclude the Portuguese Championship and promote FC Vizela and FC Arouca to the II League, without a playoff dispute with the other teams in first place in the series of the competition, calls into question the sporting truth and significantly affects the ambitions of the Praiense and Olhanense teams».

These Chambers consider "it is entirely fair that the FPF be challenged out loud and that its decision – without legal precedents – is perceived to affect not just two clubs, but two councils and two communities that deserve another respect."

"Arguments will be presented to the Secretary of State for Youth and Sports, so that justice can be restored in this case," adds a statement from the Praia da Vitória City Council.

«It is absurd to create a situation in which there are first-rate and second-rate firsts. Justifying the decision with the points of the Vizela and Arouca teams, leaders in their series, pretending that the leaders of the other series are not leaders with total justice is to violate the most basic sporting principles. Therefore, the two municipalities decided to join efforts in defense of the clubs and respect for their councils», he concludes.

Olhanense, moreover, will come forward with a injunction against accession to the II Liga de Arouca and Vizela.
