Olhanense advances with a precautionary measure against Vizela and Arouca's promotions to the II League

"We want to prevent the restart of the II League if there is no clarification of this situation for Olhanense"

Olhanense is already working on the preparation of an injunction and "a criminal process against the decision makers of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF)", due to the exclusion of the Algarve from climbs to the II League.

The FPF, in a decision that was also recognized, last Tuesday, May 5, by the League of Clubs, named Vizela e Arouca, leaders of the A and B series of the Portuguese Championship, as the clubs that climb to the II League .

At issue is the criterion that these are the teams with the highest number of points when the competition is canceled due to Covid-19: Vizela (60) and Arouca (58). Olhanense, who led the series D, was 57.

The argument is not accepted by the Algarve. To Sul Informação, Luís Torres, president of the SAD of the Olhão club, said that an injunction against the FPF decision is already being prepared, "because the regulations were not respected in this decision".

“We want to prevent the restart of the II League if there is no clarification of this situation for Olhanense. Our law firm is already working with the support of the local authority and we are going to the last consequences. We have had 100% support from the Chamber,” he said.

For Luís Torres, the decision to exclude Olhanense is counterproductive with what was decided «in all the other championships», in which the first classifieds moved up the division. This happened, for example, in the II League (in which the National leader rose) and in all the district championships.

“This is a decision that undermines sporting truth. All the first classified climbed except us and Praiense, from the C series, which is a discriminatory decision», defended Luís Torres.

For the Algarve, the best decision «was to play a play-off» between the four leaders of the series of the Portuguese Championship.

“If it wasn't possible, they would have to raise all four or, as a last resort, we would resort to a draw. What we find strange is that there are 90 games of the I League and that two games cannot be played, behind closed doors, in the Cidade do Futebol», said Luís Torres.

Speaking to our newspaper, the president of SAD do Olhanense assured that, if this decision is maintained to exclude Olhanense from the ascents, "let's think carefully and we'll probably leave football".
