92 campers and motorhome drivers fined in Costa Vicentina

Action involved nature guards, GNR military and Maritime Police agents

92 campers and motorhome drivers were fined for being camped or parked in places not allowed, along 24 beaches of the Natural Park of Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vicentina.

This was the result of a joint inspection action by the Regional Directorate for Nature Conservation and Forests of the Algarve, the GNR and the Maritime Authority, carried out yesterday, which aimed to discourage «illegal and heavily degrading practices in an area of high value natural, but also touristic».

"Camping and wild motorhomes are problems that have been identified for a long time and that constitute factors in the destruction of habitats, some of them protected, in addition to representing an illegal occupation, which results in a degradation of the places used by the uncontrolled deposition of waste that spreads through the occupied places improperly”, describes the ICNF's regional leadership.

The operation, carried out on 24 beaches, involved 35 agents (17 Nature Watchers and 14 GNR Military and four from the Maritime Police), supported by 14 vehicles (seven from ICNF, five from GNR and two from the Maritime Authority).

It resulted in "92 notices of infraction, resulting from camping, wild motorhomes and parking in prohibited places".
