Vila do Bispo fights child abuse with blue ribbons at the window

Vila-bispense community is being challenged by the local CPCJ to mark the Month for the Prevention of Child Abuse

The population of Vila do Bispo is being challenged to put a blue bow on the window tomorrow, the 30th, the symbol of the fight against child abuse.

The appeal is made by the Commission for the Protection of Children and Youth of this municipality, which organizes this initiative as part of the campaign “Month for the Prevention of Child Abuse”, which is taking place in April.

«This year, taking into account the particular context in which the Covid-19 pandemic has placed us, the CPCJ of Vila de Bispo launched an online challenge, to all interested parties, to share original drawings on the theme of the 2020 campaign Thus, throughout the month of April, the commission received several drawings that it published in its Facebook page», according to the Chamber of Vila do Bispo.

Blue bows and banners allusive to this campaign were also created by users of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia in Vila do Bispo. In this case, the works can be seen at the GNR post in Vila do Bispo and at the Basic School of the 1st Cycle of Vila do Bispo.

"In addition to these initiatives, there is also the production of a video that aims to raise awareness of the importance of preventing child abuse and promoting the rights of the child," added the municipality.

The blue ribbon is the ultimate symbol of this campaign, which began in 1989, in Virginia, in the United States of America, when a grandmother, Bonnie W. Finney, tied a blue ribbon to the antenna of her car «to make with people to question themselves».

“The story that Bonnie Finney told the community members who were “curious” was tragic and about the abuse of her granddaughter, who had already brutally killed her grandson. And why blue? Because while blue was a beautiful color, Bonnie Finney didn't want to forget the beaten, bruised bodies of her two grandchildren. The blue, which symbolizes the color of the lesions, would serve him as a constant reminder of his struggle to protect children against abuse», described the Chamber of Vila do Bispo.

Despite the current circumstances, the CPCJ maintains its activity of promoting the rights and protection of children and is available by calling 910796306 and by e-mail [email protected].
