The PCP warns of the "degradation" of the postal service in Conceição and Estoi and "requests urgent measures" to restore "the conditions of normality throughout the municipality of Faro».
In a press release, the communists say that the “current situation caused by the epidemic outbreak of Covid-19 and the consequent measures of prevention and combat cannot justify the degradation of the postal service in Conceição and Estoi”.
«The privatization of CTT, carried out in 2014 by the PSD/CDS government, led, throughout the country, to the closure of post offices and the degradation of the postal service. The option in recent years has been to accelerate the closures of post offices and transfer, whenever possible, their operation to the municipalities, as happened in December 2018 with the União de Freguesias de Conceição and Estoi with the closure of the post in Estoi », frames the PCP.
At the time, this political party «took a position stating that this decision did not serve the interests of the population of Estoi and the parish, and that the decision of the PS majority in the Junta da União de Freguesias de Conceição and Estoi, to place the parish council in supporting CTT's profits was not the best option and did not guarantee the best quality of the postal service'.
According to the communists, currently, “with regard to the postal service provided by the Parish Council, only partial pension payments are guaranteed on a reduced schedule and on (few) fixed days. All the rest of the postal service is now provided at the CTT store in Mar e Guerra. In turn, with the concentration of services in this store, together with the reduction in the opening hours of this post, there is an enormous overload of attendance and concentration of people that can easily be confirmed».
For this reason, the PCP says that "it is up to Correio de Portugal - CTT to resolve the current situation as a company holding the concession of the public postal and universal service", demanding "urgent measures so that the postal service will be restored to normal conditions in the entire county of Faro».
