José Apolinário was in Castro Marim to learn about the local situation in the fight against Covid-19

Met with the Subcommittee on Civil Protection of Castro Marim

Secretary of State José Apolinário, within the scope of his new functions as regional coordinator of the fight against Covid-19 in the Algarve, met yesterday, Wednesday, with the Civil Protection Subcommittee of Castro Marim.

The visit was intended to take stock of the regional situation, articulating the horizontal coordination of the various entities, agencies and services in the fight against the pandemic.

Mayor Francisco Amaral highlighted the importance of these visits, in a close relationship with local authorities and populations, which reflects a clear concern to know the terrain and the applicability of the measures taken.

Thus, some initiatives of the Castromarinense autarchy were highlighted, such as the protection of the population of the interior of the county, the overwhelming majority belonging to the risk group, because they are elderly, through the interruption of social transport that were carried out and, simultaneously, the provision of a set of home support services, including the delivery of medication, purchases and prescriptions.

The initiative of civil society in making the community masks was also underlined by the mayor, highlighting the preponderant role of the local health delegate, Mariano Ayala, who articulated the entire process.

Francisco Amaral added that this doctor showed "the same sense of commitment and responsibility" when the Castro Marim Chamber opposed "the stay of Asian agricultural workers in a facility that did not offer the minimum hygienic-sanitary conditions and that were welcomed in another municipality, where they got sick from Covid-19».

“We have to look to the future, and that happens within a month or two. The Algarve will be the region with the greatest difficulty in leveraging and needs positive discrimination measures from the Government», underlined, for her part, the vice-president of the Chamber.

Filomena Sintra added that the municipalities will suffer a great impact on their financial structure, namely because they are unable to collect the estimated amount of IMT and IVA, in addition to being the municipalities that will enter into social support for families.

«It will be a difficult balance to balance, with the aggravating factor that the Algarve is a region without the same level of community support, there is talk of a reallocation of these funds, but, once again, the Algarve, because it does not have the same proportional amount. , it has to be treated differently so that asymmetries and difficulties do not increase,” he concluded.

The Secretary of State's visit ended at Lar de Altura, property of the Cegonha Branca Association, whose work was recently completed, which is now defined as a support zone for the population and professionals who may need isolation.
