Algarve “offsets” six new Covid-19 cases with (at least) three recovered

The growth of cases in the Algarve has been quite slow in recent days

More six cases of Covid-19, but also the confirmation of three more patients officially recovered, two in Silves and another in Lagos, mark the evolution of the Covid-19 pandemic in the Algarve, this Wednesday.

Today's report on the evolution of the pandemic by the General Directorate of Health (DGS) updated the figures for cases in several municipalities, namely in Castro Marim, which appears for the first time in the bulletin, as it now has three cases.

Despite this official information, issued by the DGS, Francisco Amaral, mayor of Castro Marim, told the Sul Informação not having been “informed of any new case” in the county, namely by the health authorities. He even believes that this is someone who lives in the county, but who no longer lives there.

As for the two infected that were already known to exist, they are close to becoming non-cases. “They are fully recovered. I'm not sure if all the necessary tests have been done», revealed the mayor, who is also a doctor.

In Silves, where DGS reports today a new case, bringing the total to 21, «there is good news. We have the confirmation that there are two people recovered», revealed to our newspaper Rosa Palma.

In Silves, said the mayor, there will be a third person who "just awaits the result of the counter-test" to confirm that he is cured of Covid-19.

The mayor of Silves, who met today with the health authorities, also said that, "officially, Silves has, after all, 16 cases, and not the 21 that are pointed out in the DGS bulletin." This difference in numbers will also have to do with the fact that, in some cases, the address that users have registered in the NHS database does not correspond to their current address.

On the other hand, as announced by the local council, there is also a recovered person in Lagos, a former patient with Covid-19 from the parish of São Gonçalo. On the other hand, there is one more infected in this county, which now has a total of four confirmed cases.

The three people cured in Silves and Lagos bring to 15 the number of recoveries in the region. There are nine deaths, the same for several days.

This has been, moreover, a week in which the daily increase in new Covid-19 cases in the Algarve has always been below double digits – five on Monday and yesterday, six today.

In this Wednesday's DGS report, four more cases were also reported in Albufeira, the only Algarve municipality where, until last Friday, there was "community transmission" of this disease, as revealed by Ana Cristina Guerreiro, Regional Health Delegate. Now, there are already 59 infected with the new coronavirus in this county.

The demographic characterization by municipality of the number of infected in Portugal in the DGS bulletin also reveals another case in Faro, which now has 52 in total.

There may be a discrepancy between the total number of cases and those that are, on the map, distributed by municipality, since the information disclosed by the DGS, presented by municipality, refers to the total number of clinical notifications in the SINAVE system, corresponding to 82% of confirmed cases'.
