The guarantee had already been given, but it was reinforced on the morning of Monday, March 2nd: «the Hospital of Faro is prepared” for an eventual case of Covid-19. Jamila Madeira, Assistant Secretary of State and Health, was today in Faro, on the day that two cases of coronavirus in Portugal are already confirmed.

The government official had a working meeting with the administration of the University Hospital Center of the Algarve (CHUA), later speaking to journalists.

With the Covid-19 epidemic on the agenda, this was one of the topics covered.

Questioned by journalists, Jamila Madeira began by expressing her “increased concern” about the fact that there are already two confirmed cases in Portugal.

«The Hospital of Faro it is prepared, with negative pressure rooms, solutions within the framework of the contingency plan to provide an adequate response and referral», he said.

This statement, moreover, follows on from what had already been said by Paulo Morgado, President of the Regional Health Administration (ARS) of the Algarve, to Sul Informação.

The Secretary of State also left the recommendation that no one should go immediately to emergency rooms and health centers, in case of symptoms, but "call the NHS 24".

«All the dynamics and reinforcement that were needed, the Hospital [de Faro] has already planned them and is implementing”, he also guaranteed.

Jamila Madeira went further and said that "there is no prospect of not being able to respond, quite the contrary".

And the thousands of tourists arriving in the Algarve? Are you being well informed? How has the region been preparing?

The Secretary of State referred "to the information that exists at Airports, articulated with the General Directorate of Health, and even in the media."

"I think there is no problem with information and all tourists now, as before, know that the NHS will respond to their needs," he concluded.
