Marcelo says that maintaining the containment measures is a "unanimous opinion"

Marcelo had a meeting with experts about Covid-19

The President of the Republic said today that it is necessary to maintain the containment measures in force in Portugal, referring that this was a unanimous opinion at the second technical meeting on the situation of Covid-19 in the country.

“The containment measures must be maintained, and it was a unanimous opinion. Going back to that image from a week ago: it is important to maintain pressure on the spring so that the spring does not rise. As a priority for our immediate future”, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa declared to journalists at Infarmed, in Lisbon.

Asked about the renewal of the state of emergency, the President of the Republic reinforced this message: “I do not hide that from today's meeting it is very clear how important it is to give a signal of maintenance of what was acquired and was a conquest of the Portuguese that cannot even must be lost”.

The head of State, who was speaking at the end of the second technical session of the presentation on the “Epidemiological situation of Covid-19 in Portugal”, argued that the evolution of the outbreak “gives the Portuguese reasons to continue doing what they have been doing and he is right to political decision makers to decide in the immediate future in the same sense as they decided in the immediate past”.
