A mother of teenager from Portimão infected with Covid-19 it is also infected with the disease, says TVI, citing the mayor of this Algarve city. Thus, the number of cases of the new coronavirus in Portugal rises to 31.

Meanwhile, the Escola EB 2,3 José Buisel, in Portimão, where the mother is a teacher, should also be closed, after yesterday the same measure was taken in relation to the Secondary School Manuel Teixeira Gomes, where the 16-year-old girl is studying. In total, there are around 1800 students without classes in Portimão.

These are the first two confirmed cases in the south of the country, after yesterday, Sunday, the infection of the young student at the Manuel Teixeira Gomes Secondary School was confirmed, leading to the transport and hospitalization of the 16-year-old teenager at Hospital D. Estefânia, in Lisbon.

The girl's mother is hospitalized in Lisbon. Her two sisters are in isolation, at home, without symptoms, as are other family members.

Yesterday, the ESMTG management released a note reporting on the closing of the secondary school and advising “all the educational community that may have had contact with the student must pay particular attention to the appearance of signs and symptoms of acute respiratory infection, such as fever, cough or difficulty breathing. If any of these signs or symptoms appear, call the SNS24 (808 24 24 24)».

According to the school note, after returning from vacation in Italy with her family, the student, still without symptoms, contacted the Health Line 24, “which gave her instructions to monitor her clinical situation and comply with some social and hygiene rules. personal, but that he could make his life normal».

In this way, he returned to school on February 27th and «was daily accompanied by the SNS24 team». However, it ended up making her sick, as well as her mother. The father and two sisters were also in Italy on vacation.

Yesterday at the end of the afternoon, after a meeting, the public health delegate from Portimão appealed to people who were in contact with the student infected with Covid-19 to adopt “social distancing” measures to prevent the spread of the virus.

"At least until March 20, the entire school community must monitor any symptoms, adopting behaviors of hygiene and social distancing," declared the health delegate.

Those who had “close contact” with the student “will receive a direct indication from the services [SNS24 Line]”, added Maria Filomena Agostinho.
